its quite difficult, with the controversey over the first question answer (spoiler alert) i believe it is 12, the main square, the 4 inside main square, 4 small squares inside bottom left main square, the add-on (extension) of bottom left hand & the small squares in the add-on and top right hand square inside the main one. hopes this helps others.
maybe a sequel of this game with colour and sound?

im a fan of randomness, and side scrollers like this and putting them together is genius, perhaps a sequel with colour scheme other then black and white please.

i found it quite boring really no sound, colour same and repetative, and the questions are stupid, not to mention the title is slightly offensive.
